The Universidad PolitÚcnica of Cartagena (UPCT), created in 1998, is a medium-size University (6500 students) which offers Undergraduate Degree (three-and five-year Degrees) and Postgraduate-PhD Programmes. UPCT is strongly involved in national and international R&D projects through its 24 Scientific Departments. Four departments of the UPCT are involved in SIRRIMED, covering the whole spectrum of activities, from the farm scale to the watershed: They are: Agricultural and Food Engineering (in Workpackages 2, 3, 4 and 5), Plant Production (in WP 1 and 2), Fluid Mechanics (in WP5), Socio-Economy (in WP 6). All these Departments conducted research and engineering projects dealing with agricultural water resources management under scarcity.
